Tip of the Month, is a powerful custom content sales product designed to connect advertisers with your audience while positioning them as experts in their industry and creating a new stream of branded content revenue for your media organization. It's available now for you to take to the streets and grow your branded content revenue stream!

Recently, the Branded Content Project welcomed Jarrett Shaffer of Vuepoint Advertising to the Big Branded Call to discuss how to position Tip of the Month to advertisers across any industry.

"This type of branded content not only educates the audience but also elevates the advertiser as an authority in their niche," Shaffer said. "Publishers have seen a strong response from advertisers, as it allows them to share insights they’re already providing to clients while reinforcing their brand through storytelling, and they just get it."

The Tip of the Month sponsorship offers advertisers the opportunity to position themselves as industry experts by providing valuable advice in their field, such as a legal tip of the month for an attorney or a drink of the month for a distillery.

We've highlighted 20 industries you can target right now, each with a custom tip of the month content idea and plan. Check out the categories below!

Let's say your prospective advertiser is an electrical contractor who is trying to build their residential clientele. You could present to them the DIY Tip of the Month series, offering them an exclusive sponsorship of the series, including one long-form custom article a month for twelve months.

For example, you could detail a step-by-step guide to seasonal home maintenance the first month, and quick fixes for common household problems the next.

"It's a combination of looking at their business and what their goals are, what their target audience is, and then we also incorporate SEO, and what people are searching for at that time of the year to come up with some ideas that really resonate with their market, their audience, and who they want to target with their content," said Caitlin Montoya, content director for The Branded Content Project's content studio.

This type of custom content does not feature the advertiser's products or services, but puts their name behind engaging content that readers are interested in. The advertiser benefits as the exclusive sponsor of the series, and the publisher benefits by providing helpful content that aligns with their editorial standards.

As a publisher, base your pricing off your hard costs and what else you will package in the Tip of the Month campaign. The Branded Content Project charges $375 per custom article (including content strategy, client interview, content calendar & editing), so we would recommend doubling or tripling the asking price to the advertiser. Also, decide what else to package with the Tip of the Month campaign, like display or banner ads, social media boosts or newsletter add-ons, as well as any other drivers to your Tip of the Month content.

You may want to build a special content hub where you can layer various Tips of the Month campaigns. This is what is going to build incremental revenue for your organization, because you can sell multiple categories at once. The Branded Content Project can build you a content hub, and manage the content so the lift is very light for the publisher & sales team.

We want to help your organization sell as many Tip of the Month sponsorships as possible. Email liz@brandedcontentproject.com or julia@brandedcontentproject.com to schedule a quick planning & strategy call.

The Branded Content Project is designed through a strategic partnership between the Meta Journalism Project, Local Media Association and the Local Media Consortium to help facilitate additional growth, engagement, and revenue success for more publishers of all shapes and sizes.
